Payment and pricing

How do I pay?

Cash, card tap or bank transfer. The service call is paid at the visit by cash or card tap. Bench repairs are paid when you get your machine back. For a bank transfer, we text or email you a secure Stripe invoice. It takes up to 4 business days to clear, and we return your machine once it does, so pay cash or tap for same-day return. If we order the parts for a custom build, the whole build (parts, the $25 handling fee, labor and add-ons) is paid upfront by cash or bank transfer before we order anything. We don't take Venmo or Zelle, and we'll never ask for gift cards.

What if my repair needs parts?

Parts aren't included in labor prices. We'll add them to your quote, and we may ask you to pay for them by cash or bank transfer before we order. The job takes a little longer while they ship.

Do you work with businesses?

Yes, as long as your business doesn't already have someone handling its IT, whether an employee or an outside company. Business work is $100 an hour with a 1-hour minimum, then billed in 30-minute increments after that, plus the service call. If your business has more than one location, each one we drive to is its own service call. It covers on-site jobs, multiple machines and upgrade planning. Most people get home pricing, and we'll confirm which one applies before any work starts.

Can you help me pick a laptop?

Yes. Try our Laptop Finder: answer 5 quick questions and it picks one laptop for you on the spot, free, with its real specs, the exact version to buy and links to check today's price. Want a deeper side-by-side comparison? The detailed buying plan is $40, credited toward New PC setup with us, up to the setup price. We may suggest a Mac if it fits you best, but our setup and repairs are Windows only.

Do I sign anything?

For a quick fix, no. You reply YES to our booking text, which links our terms, and you get an itemized receipt. If your computer goes to our bench, you sign a short service agreement first. For a new build, you sign it before we order anything. The agreement covers the price you approved, your data and our policies.

Service call and travel

How far do you travel, and what does it cost?

Anywhere in Franklin County. In Greenfield there's no service call at all. Everywhere else in Franklin County it's $45. Outside Franklin County, it's quoted by distance, from $65. Return trips to fix a repair under our 30-day coverage are always free.

Is the diagnosis really free if there's a service call?

Yes. Advice by phone or text is always free, and so is figuring out what's wrong and giving you a price. The service call pays for our trip out and back, and quick fixes during the visit are included. In Greenfield there's no service call. If it needs bench work, you get a price first, separate from the trip.

What should I have ready for the visit?

Your charger and any cables or accessories, a backup of your important files if the computer still turns on, and your login if we need it to test. You give us your login in person, and we never store it.

What if I don't go ahead after the diagnosis?

That's fine. The diagnosis is free. We put your computer back together the way we got it and return it at no extra charge, usually within a week. The service call you already paid, if your town has one, covers the trip back.

Do you work on Macs?

No, we only work on Windows desktops and laptops, plus custom PC builds.

Thermal and tuning

Why does thermal service cost more for graphics cards and laptops?

A desktop processor just needs the cooler taken off and fresh paste put on. On graphics cards and most gaming laptops, the same cooler also sits on smaller memory and power chips, with soft pads or putty filling the gap. Those tear when the cooler comes off, so we always replace them. We use a long-lasting thermal pad on the main chips and thermal putty on the smaller ones. The extra work is included in the $125 price.

Why use thermal putty on the smaller chips?

Putty squishes to fill uneven gaps, so it stays in full contact with the cooler. A standard pad of the wrong thickness can leave an air gap or stop the cooler from sitting flat. That's why many gaming laptops and some newer graphics cards come with putty from the factory.

My laptop came with liquid metal. Can you service it?

Yes. Some laptops use liquid metal instead of paste to move heat. We clean it all off and switch to a long-lasting thermal pad. It usually runs a few degrees warmer than fresh liquid metal, but it can't spread onto nearby parts or dry out over time. It's included in our $125 laptop thermal service at no extra charge. If the liquid metal has already damaged something, we'll show you and quote the repair first.

Is overclocking safe?

Advanced tuning is for desktops. We keep voltages and temperatures within careful limits for your hardware and test every change for stability before your machine comes back. Results depend on your hardware, and no specific gain is guaranteed. AMD and Intel say overclocking, including turning on memory speed profiles (XMP or EXPO), can void their warranties. Some graphics card makers say the same. We'll go over what to expect before we start.

Custom builds

Can I use parts I already have?

Yes. List them on the build form, with model numbers if you know them. We'll check they're compatible and plan the build around them. Older parts get tested before we build, and if one isn't up to the job, we'll tell you before anything is ordered.

What's lifetime build support?

Every custom build includes free troubleshooting and diagnosis, help with manufacturer warranty claims (RMAs), a yearly dust-out, and driver and BIOS updates for as long as the original owner has the PC. Replacement parts aren't included unless the manufacturer's warranty covers them. Visits cost the usual service call for your town. Builds delivered before October 12, 2026, keep free visits in Greenfield.

Can I cancel a custom build?

Yes. If you ordered the parts, you own them, so you can cancel at no charge any time before we start building. If we ordered them for you, the parts are still yours, but their cost and the $25 handling fee aren't refundable. Labor and add-ons are refunded if we haven't started building. You can take the parts, or we'll try to return them and pass along whatever the store refunds, minus restocking fees and return shipping.

No questions match that. Send us a request and we'll answer it.

Policies and privacy

The short version. The full terms are in our service agreement (PDF), which you sign before your computer comes to our bench.

Estimates and approval

We'll give you a price before starting, and nothing happens without your OK. If we find something unexpected, we'll let you know right away. No fix, no repair fee (the service call still applies), and repairs are covered for 30 days after your machine comes back.

Back up your data

Backing up your files before the visit is your responsibility. We're careful, but data can be lost, especially on failing hardware, and we can't be responsible for it.

Your device, files and messages

We only access your computer to do the work you approved. We never share or keep your files. We only copy them when the job needs it, like a data transfer or saving files from a failing drive, and delete those copies afterward. Messages from our forms go through a third-party form service to our email, are only used to reply to you, and are never sold.

Return window

We'll let you know when your machine is ready to come back. If we can't arrange a return within 90 days of that, it's considered abandoned and may be recycled or sold to cover costs, with the drive wiped first. We'll try to reach you before that happens.
